Please post your weekly reflections below.

  1. This week in class I learned a greater understanding of pre-production, production, and post-production and what they encompass. I understand how subjective and objective point of views are used and where the camera is located to film each. This was the first time I've heard of Hitchcock's Rule that the size of an object in the frame should equal its importance at the point in the story. I've also gained a greater knowledge of various shots such as connecting shots and the three different types of inserts that I wasn't familiar with.

  2. Last class i felt like i learned a lot. We went over the pre production, production and post production and what is done in each phase and what is the most important. We also learned a lot of different terms that will help us both in video and photography. I really like that Mr. Justin had us write three things we hope to get out of this class and three reasons why knowing video will help us photographers in the future; It got us thinking and helped us participate in class more. I really like where this class is heading and am excited to learn more and create awesome videos.

  3. During our discussion in class last week I felt that we were moving in a positive direction. I'm excited about learning what video has to offer me as a photographer and I'm interested in learning what the video process will be like. I feel that I already have a more detailed understanding of pre-production, production, and post-production and all that these processes entail.

  4. In last weeks class I have learned a lot more about the different stages and what goes into each one of making a Video, such as pre-production, production and post production.
It became even more obvious as to why it is beneficial for a Photographer to tap into video making and why a film maker should have a basic knowledge about Photography

  5. This week in class I learned how much the editor affects the final version of a film. By watching The Cutting Edge, I clearly saw the “invisible art” of film editing. I thought the Headshot experiment was very interesting and beneficial to film editors because it showed the connections and story the viewer creates. Overall I gained a better knowledge of the general stages of film editing and how a film is finalized.

  6. During last class we watched and awesome video about film editing. When i first heard we were going to watch a movie I was not too excited. After watching the movie however, I wanted to watch more. I found myself getting really into it and wanting to learn more, I even went home and told my parents about it on the phone. We also learned about the different ways of editing videos and how people manipulate your thinking by the different ways they edit things together. The short clip we watched was a great example of this, manipulating your feelings and perspectives by using the different lights, sounds, colors and angles. I must say i am very excited about this class and learning more.

  7. Although I have seen the "cutting edge" a few weeks prior, I have learned more the second time around.
It is interesting to see how movies are often (if sometimes unintentionally) used to manipulate peoples thinking pattern and how you can throw them of the loop with a simple change in the edit or with the use of props.
Like the short-film we watched, with each change of sound, camera angle or the use of certain props you will have a different premonition of whats going to happen and in the end it turns out that you should have stuck with your first thought.

  8. During our last class I learned that editors are considered the "invisible art" of the film industry according to "The Cutting Edge" video that we viewed. Overall I feel that I understand the editing and finalizing of a film better.

We also learned a lot bout editing audio on Final Cut and adding text to your movie. I feel that after last week i have a much better understanding of Final Cut and its fun little tools it has and am very excited to get going on our first project !

  10. This week in class I acquired a greater understanding for film lighting and the different types of lights used. We were thought about the differ ways to edit audio and the title in Final cut pro.

  13. Last class was so much fun !! We went over how to compress and import videos to the computer. Then Mr. Robb took us to Ybor to do some shooting. We each had a turn setting up a shot and shooting one of our classmates as well as using a different camera to shoot some B role footage. We also had a turn to each talk in front of the camera in the middle of Ybor; I must say I am quite excited to see the final product.

  14. Last we we had the privilege to go down to Ybor and learn how to use the Canon 5D Mark ll with Robb. Each one of us had to shoot some B roll footage, be in front of the Camera and shoot with the main Camera. We haven not yet seen the final out come, but I am looking forward to it.
I took a lot from the class and I have to say filming with that camera is much more fun then shooting with one of those handy cams and it is a little easier then I thought it would be.

  15. Since we couldn't attend class in school last week Robb took us on a field trip to ybor city. He had each of us set up the camera and shoot footage. I feel that I learned a lot from working hands on with the camera equipment. I hope we have more hands on assignments or trips similar to last weeks and I can't wait to see how the footage turned out.

  16. I really enjoyed shooting on location in ybor with Robb last week. I feel confident enough to check out the 5d and use it for video. I'm looking forward to editing the footage. I learned how to manage audio on location and the importance of shooting b roll footage.

  17. During class this week, we watched all of our videos for the Kuleshov project which i think were all great. We also reviewed for the midterm which i found to be helpful due to the fact video has a lot that goes into it and it is a lot to remember. I feel more confident yet still nervous about the test and know that studying what we went over will make a huge difference in my score. Justin was very patient since we were all becoming a little delirious and frustrated and found ourselves laughing and joking around. It was a fun yet very informative class and am looking forward to editing footage this week with Robb and showing the final products.

  18. We reviewed and critiqued our Kuleshov videos, after that we moved on to talk about the midterm and reviewed the questions so we wont look like complete fools when taking the test!

  19. Last week in class we reviewed for our midterm a little more and edited our film from Ybor. Robb showed us so new tricks and shortcuts in final cut and I'm starting to feel more comfortable with the program. We had a lot of fun watching the clips and deciding as a group how to edit as we took turns using final cut. I'm excited to see the final version and hopefully it's not too embarrassing.

  20. These last couple weeks in class have been very interesting. We have gotten feedback on our first assignments and have edited our video footage we shot with Robb awhile back. Also we had the dreadful midterm that everyone did really well on although we were nervous. We have now started on our next assignments which are to make a documentary and a music video which is a group project. I look forward to shooting both some more and learning more about video techniques and editing.

  21. Last week in class we started editing our documentaries in class. I learned how to change the pitch of voice, resize a frame and create a freeze frame. I also found the use of sub-clips to be very useful in organizing clips. I'm looking forward to continuing the project and completing my first documentary!

  22. Last week in class we worked on our documentaries. I personally ran in to a mess of troubles but in the end it was ok and I was able to edit it a bit. I still have a lot to do but it will be worth it. I cant wait to finish it !

  23. Last week in class we had a pizza party and made the executive decision to put all of our work into our documentary. We made significant progress on our videos and I learned some new tricks in final cut pro. Upon finishing this project I definitely feel more comfortable with the program and would be able to make videos on my own time. I thoroughly enjoyed making the bike guy documentary and I hope you guys enjoy it..
